49ers' Brandon Aiyuk reportedly hires new agent as he pursues return to NFL

On a crisp autumn afternoon in Atherton, the air is filled with anticipation as the San Francisco 49ers prepare for another season. Among the players, one name stands out—Brandon Aiyuk. Once a promising wide receiver, Aiyuk has been absent from the field for over a year, leaving fans and analysts alike wondering about his future in the NFL. Now, as whispers of his return circulate, Aiyuk has taken a significant step forward by hiring renowned agent Drew Rosenhaus, signaling his serious intent to rejoin the league.

What Happened

Brandon Aiyuk's journey has been anything but straightforward. After being placed on the Reserve/Left Squad list in December 2025, Aiyuk's contract guarantees were voided due to his absence from the team's facility for necessary rehabilitation appointments following a knee injury sustained during the 2024 season. The 49ers had considered trading him during the offseason but ultimately decided to retain him, as no satisfactory offers were presented. Now, with the hiring of Drew Rosenhaus, Aiyuk is poised to take the next step toward reinstatement.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Rosenhaus is actively working on facilitating Aiyuk's return to the NFL. This includes navigating the formal process of applying for reinstatement, a crucial step that Aiyuk must complete before he can officially rejoin any team. The decision to hire Rosenhaus, who has a reputation for successfully representing high-profile athletes, demonstrates Aiyuk's commitment to reviving his professional career.

In November 2025, Aiyuk parted ways with his previous agent, Ryan Williams of Athletes First, marking a pivotal moment in his career. The transition to a new agent often indicates a fresh start, and for Aiyuk, this could mean the opportunity to reclaim his position on the field.

Community Reaction

The news of Aiyuk's decision to hire Rosenhaus has resonated deeply within the Atherton community. As a town that prides itself on its strong ties to the 49ers, residents are hopeful for Aiyuk's return. Local sports enthusiasts express their support, recognizing the challenges he has faced over the past year.

“Brandon has shown immense potential, and we believe he can bounce back,” said local coach and youth sports advocate Mark Johnson. “His determination to return speaks volumes about his character. We’re rooting for him.” The sentiment among fans reflects a broader understanding of the pressures athletes face, particularly when injuries and personal challenges arise.

Support from Fellow Players

Aiyuk's former teammates have also voiced their encouragement. Many have taken to social media to express their belief in his abilities and their support for his journey back to the NFL. This camaraderie highlights the importance of community within the sports world, where relationships often extend beyond the field.

The Path Forward

As Aiyuk embarks on this new chapter, the road to reinstatement will require careful navigation. He must submit a formal letter to the NFL requesting reinstatement, a step that will enable the 49ers to release him from the Reserve/Left Squad list. Until that process is complete, he remains on the team's roster, a status that complicates potential opportunities with other teams.

Once reinstated, Aiyuk will be eligible to sign with any interested team for the remainder of the season. The NFL landscape is ever-changing, and several franchises could benefit from his skills as a wide receiver. The 49ers, while initially hesitant to part ways with Aiyuk, may also reconsider their options depending on the unfolding season.
